Key Considerations for Selecting a BMS Protection Board for Lithium Battery Packs

Select a lithium battery pack BMS protection board by evaluating four key dimensions: continuous discharge current, balancing method, temperature sensing, and communication protocol.
The BMS protection board defines the safety limits of a battery pack. When selecting one, evaluate it across these four dimensions.
1. Continuous and Peak Discharge Currents.Include headroom based on the tool's maximum operating current. Power tools draw high inrush current at startup; verify peak discharge capability.
2. Balancing Method.Passive balancing offers a simple structure and cost control. Active balancing is better suited for scenarios with many series cells or high usage frequency, helping to extend the overall battery pack lifespan.
3. Temperature Sampling. At least one cell temperature sampling channel is required. Charge and discharge protection thresholds should be configured separately. In high-temperature environments, additional sampling points are recommended for the battery pack.
IV. Communication Protocol. When integrating with the main controller or host computer, confirm the UART, CAN protocols and data frame formats in advance.
